Frequently Asked Questions
What Can I Expect During a Lactation Consultation?
Your lactation consultant will begin by asking questions to gather a thorough medical history for both you and your baby. This helps us better understand your unique feeding experience and any challenges you may be facing.
Next, your consultant will gently assess both you and your baby and invite you to feed your baby so they can observe a feeding and evaluate how things are going.
For in-person visits, your baby will be weighed on a sensitive infant scale before and after feeding to measure milk transfer and determine how much milk your baby took during the feeding.
After completing the assessment, your lactation consultant will discuss their findings with you and work collaboratively to create a personalized care plan designed to support your feeding goals.
We encourage you to share your thoughts, questions, and feelings at any point before, during, or after your appointment. Our goal is for you to feel supported, comfortable, and confident with a plan that works best for you, your baby, and your family.
With your permission, a full report can be sent to your other healthcare providers, and referrals to additional specialists will be provided if needed. Your lactation consultant will also follow up with you after your visit, and you are encouraged to stay in touch until your feeding concerns feel fully resolved.

When should I schedule a consultation?
Ideally, the first few days after birth. Providing human milk is a personal experience that often needs a little help to get going. A lactation consultant can be the calm, supportive expert that your family may need to have success. Our lactation consultants are Internationally Board Certified (IBCLC). An IBCLC is a professional trained in lactation care. We can help with many aspects of infant feeding. Feel free to reach out for whatever questions or concerns you may have.
Do you support bottle feeding clients?
Yes! We support all infant feeding concerns. We help parents navigate combination feeding as well as exclusively pumping and formula feeding parents.
Will you support my decision not to breastfeed?
Absolutely. This is a personal decision and as lactation consultants, our job is to help you meet your feeding goals. There are many reasons and circumstances that might lead someone to decide not to breastfeed. We are here to support you with any feeding goals you have.
